The Save the Children Romania team participated in the Bucharest Half-marathon, in order to raise the necessary funds to equip the Clinical Department of Plastic Surgery, Reconstructive Microsurgery and Burns at the “Grigore Alexandrescu” Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children with the latest generation equipment, the only department in country that cares for cases of extensive burns in children. Most of the cases with burns over 20% of the body surface come from all the counties of the country, only 10-12% are from the Bucharest – Ilfov region.
Thus, doctors need:
- -Two electrocautery
- -Two magnifying glasses with light
- -Chairs for the operating room
- -Computers, the need for digitization being major.
Together we succeed! Be part of the solution! #salvaticopiii [source: Instagram]
During the marathon, my tasks included cheering up the runners and taking photographs. I particularly enjoyed the kids’ races and gave my all to support them, even running alongside those who wanted to give up in order to encourage them. All in all, it was an unforgettable experience where runners and volunteers gathered together in order to raise money for equipping a hospital for children.
